Explore dark skies and southern stars
19 June @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Join us for a special winter solstice stargazing treat. From the slopes of kunanyi / Mount Wellington listen to the palawa / Tasmanian Aboriginal night sky stories from Nita Education. All profits will be donated to Nayri Niara an Aboriginal social enterprise uniting ancient traditions with modern innovation including the fortnightly Home Hearth market and biannual Good Sprit Festival.
After hearing the stories of the stars we’ll be guided by telescope and naked eye, around the distant stars, moon, solar system, Milky Way and beyond. If the cloud does roll in we will still listen to the palawa creation stories and do some spotlighting for some of Tassie’s unique nocturnal animals.
Hot drinks including mulled wine and sweet treats will also be offered in the shelter of the hut. We will spend an extended period outside in the cold and advise you to wear your warmest clothing and bring a torch (preferably with a red lens). Please also bring a face mask to be worn when using the telescope.
Adults only. Price $80. Full refund if cancelled due to weather.
